Inspired by MERIDIAN RENT A CAR clients, we suggest you a trip to Transalpina, in order to rediscover the beauty of "the highest road in Romania". Being probably the highest and the oldest road in the country, Transalpina is less known than Transfagarasan, aspect also caused by the difficulty of the road that makes it difficult to drive. Transalpina is an area of maximum touristic potential, offering gorgeous, wild landscapes that are still untouched by people.

Transalpina is the only road that will "lift" you up in the clouds and even above. The wilderness of the area gives you the impression that you are in a place of  the gods, somewhere above humanity. In the old latin maps, Transalpina appears under the name "the country beyond the mountains", a name that truly reflects the characteristics of the area, its combination of mithical and real.

In some sources it appears that Transalpina was rebuild at the command of King Carol II in 1938, after being initially a mountain trail used by shepherds to cross the mountains wih the flocks of the sheep to Tara Romaneasca. From an initiator of the process of transhumance, Transalpina became "King`s Road" because, in order to inaugurate it, it was even routed by the royal family.

Since 29 May, 2017, Transalpina has been officialy opened and the road traffic is allowed. The road is also safe, it has traffic signs and parapets.

Certainly the beauty of Transalpina will not leave you indifferent!
